Yoga to Beat the Wintertime Blues with Robyn

In the wintertime we often feel depleted of energy. It is also a common time for SAD (seasonal affected disorder), depression and anxiety to set in. This workshop will combine lecture, experiential movement and breath work. The specific pranayama techniques, flow sequences, and posture holds will help show you how to lift your spirits. This workshop is geared to everyone as it offers tools to both help yourself and/or those you love and care about. Some knowledge of the chakras, basic yoga philosophy and pranayama is helpful but not necessary. Please join us!

Restorative Yoga with Robyn Parets and Andrea Downey
Recharge, Relax and Renew

Restorative Yoga is often called the yoga of "non-doing." In this restorative and healing workshop, you will be guided into supportive postures that allow the body to deeply relax. This evening will also include some calming pranayama and a guided meditation for optimal relaxation. As the days grow colder and winter drags on, this is a great way to recharge and de-stress the body and mind. Please bring: four blankets, two pillows, one eye pillow (must have to participate) and one bolster (if you have one). Eye pillows are available for purchase in the studio.

An Afternoon with David Vendetti: Experiential Anatomy, Flow and Fun!
Fun fact about David: He was voted Boston Magazine's Best Yoga Teacher 2011 and 2005!

In this delicious adventure we will discover where and why we hold tension in the body. We will do this by flowing through practice while examining what muscles are working. All the while we will dig out some of the pockets of holding in the neck, shoulders, hips, low back and more. Our use of props will focus on liberating the breath and allowing for the fullest range of motion. With some work and dedication to practice, we'll discover and unlock freedom in the body and breath. Finally, we will close with a meditation about the emotions that can come up when we celebrate both our ability to ground, infinitely rise and find freedom of movement.

About David: "Yoga allows me to be who I am without struggle. To notice, breathe, remember and enjoy this body, this moment. I love returning to my yoga mat to play in the body awakening, breathe into a heart wide open and find gratitude for the infinite that I forgot was me." David's classes integrate a clear foundation in anatomy with intelligent alignment, hands on adjustments and ever evolving flows to heal the body. Students are encouraged to cultivate a deep passion for self examination, light hearted exploration and drop everything in order to find out that when we hold on to nothing, what is left, is all we truly need. David co-owns South Boston Yoga with his partner, Todd Skoglund. Breathe Joy Yoga is thrilled to welcome him back!!!

Introduction to the Chakras
Have you ever wanted to know more about the body's energy system? Well, here's your chance. You may hear the terms "open your heart chakra" or "move your stuck energy" in a yoga class. But do you really know what this means? In this special workshop, Robyn Parets will discuss the seven main energy centers of the body. You will learn what about how certain imbalances in these chakras can manifest as physical, mental and emotional conditions. We will conclude class with a chakra meditation, guiding you through all seven energy centers. Hand-outs will be supplied to each participant. You will leave with a deeper understanding of what is going on with your own energy system.
